Les dominos double 9 : règles, stratégies et astuces pour devenir un champion

Double-nine dominoes: rules, strategies and tips to become a champion

55 tiles instead of 28, pips up to 9: what the double nine really changes.

What moving to the double nine changes

The classic domino set stops at 6 and contains 28 tiles. The double nine goes up to 9 and contains 55. It is not just “more tiles”: the round lasts longer, hands are bigger, and above all it becomes much harder to guess what the others are holding.

With the double six, an attentive player soon knows which values their opponents are missing. With the double nine, ten values circulate instead of seven: memory matters more, and pure elimination works less well.

How it is played

Each player draws a starting hand; the rest forms the boneyard. On your turn you place a tile one of whose two values matches a free end of the chain. If you cannot place, you draw — and you only pass once the boneyard is empty. The round ends when a player has placed all their tiles, or when nobody can play.

Three useful habits

Play your doubles early. A double can only be laid on its own value: kept too long, it is the tile that stays stuck in your hand at the end of the round and costs you points.

Watch the values running out. When a value has been played a lot, putting an end on that value often blocks the table — sometimes to your advantage, but only if your hand is light.

Watch what your opponents draw. A player who draws three times on one value is telling you exactly what they do not have. It is the most reliable information in the game, and it is free.
