Which wooden strategy game for two players?
Fancy a real duel of wits? Here is how to find your way among our wooden strategy games.
The strictly two-player games
Go and Othello are played by two and two only. They are games of direct confrontation: each player builds territory or flips the opponent's discs, with no room for a third player.
- Othello (13.5 × 13.5 × 2.8 cm, acacia wood): rules you can explain in a few minutes, and frequent reversals of fortune.
- Go (15.3 × 30.8 × 5.5 cm, acacia wood, 0.99 kg): rules just as simple, but a depth of play that reveals itself game after game.
The two-player games that stretch to more
Connect 4 and Barricade play very well with two, but their simple rules also make them easy to bring out in a group for one game after another.
Which one to start with?
Othello and Connect 4 are the quickest to pick up — ideal for a first game with no long explanation. Go takes a little longer before its depth becomes clear, but it stays accessible from the very first game.
Frequently asked questions

Go, renowned for its richness of play despite simple rules.
How long does a game last?
It depends above all on the game: a round of Connect 4 takes a few minutes, a game of Othello around half an hour, while a game of Go can last considerably longer depending on the players' level.
